Islands Largest EV Public Charging Site Opened

We are delighted to announce the opening of a major new public electric vehicle charging site at Jacksons and Motor Mall. The site features 8 dedicated EV charging bays with the latest 22kWh Pod Point charging stations, offering 3 times faster charging than the current 7kWh public charging points located around the island, and at the same cost of £0.19p per kWh.

Jacksons Head of Business Darren Moore detailed the reason behind this substantial investment.

“As the islands largest multi-franchise dealership, representing 24 of the world’s finest brands, we felt it essential to support the ever-increasing sale of EVs to both our customers and the public in general with this major new charging station which is available 24/7/365.

We already have over 40 EVs on site and many new models in the pipeline from our manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Mini, Toyota, Lexus, Audi, VW, Smart and Porsche. It’s a big change not only for our industry but for our customers and we are here to offer help, advice and support for anyone thinking of switching to electric.”

The site will be open 24 hours a day and there are multiple ways the public can make use of the site. We offer a free shuttle service from Jacksons into Douglas at 8.30am and 9.30am every weekday morning plus there is a bus stop right outside Jacksons that can be used. For EVs that can take the faster 22kWh charge, drivers are welcome to wait and use the seating, coffee and free Wi-Fi in both Jacksons and Motor Mall showrooms. With 24 hour access, there is also the opportunity to charge overnight. We also have a range of spare charging cables available to use during opening hours only.

The charging stations are now live on the Pod Point app which is easily found through the App Store and very simple to use. The App shows whether the charging stations are in use or available, in real time. For anyone struggling to get this to work, our team are on site during working hours and weekends for help and advice.

EV users have always been very considerate and realise that others may be waiting to charge their vehicle and we would urge this to be a key consideration in collecting your vehicle as soon as possible once charged.

We are seeing unprecedented interest in electric vehicles (EVs) and we currently have over 40 electric cars on site from Hyundai, Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Skoda, Smart, Renault, Seat, Fiat, BMW, VW, Audi, Mini and Porsche with new models being launched regularly, and a growing range of vans from Peugeot and Renault, with VW models in the pipeline.

We fully understand that for some people switching to electric is a very big change and they may feel uneasy. We offer complimentary EV test drives in our demonstrator fleet and have the expertise to discuss all the concerns, challenges and multiple benefits of EV ownership. With all the major manufacturers committing to electric, and forthcoming legislation in new car ownership, our priority is to help the island make the switch as smoothly as possible.
